Mona Lisa
ΑπάντησηΔιαγραφήMona Lisa, also called Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo, Italian La Gioconda, or French La Joconde,is a portrait painted by Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci.
Mona lisa is an oil painting on poplar wood, completed in the period 1503-1519. Owned by the French State, it is on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The painting, 77cm × 53cm, depicts a sitting woman, Lisa del Jocondo, whose facial expression is often puzzling.
The painting was named after Lisa del Jocondo, who was a member of the Gerardini family of Florence and Tuscany and the wife of wealthy silk merchant Francisco del Jocondo. The table was custom made for their new home and to celebrate the birth of their second son, Andrea. The identity of the pictured woman was recognized at the University of Heidelberg in 2005 by an expert who discovered a note in 1503 written by Agostino Vespucci.
The painting's reputation grew when Mona Lisa was stolen on August 21, 1911. The next day, Louis Béroud, a painter walking the Louvre, went to the Salon Carré where Mona Lisa was exposed for five years. However, at the point where the board was supposed to be located, there were four iron piles. Beru informed the security officer in that area who thought the painting was being photographed for commercial purposes. A few hours later, Beru, along with the head of security, contacted the head of the department, and it was confirmed that Mona Lisa was not with the photographers. The Louvre was closed for a week to facilitate the investigation into the theft.
In conclusion,Mona Lisa is considered the most famous painting. In my opinion,it has also the most interesting history facts as it was stolen and the suspects were multiple.
